The Ladies Leukemia League’s “Fête de Noël” once again proved to be a big draw, as more than 1,300 patrons attended this luncheon at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside on Dec. 6. There were a number of activities to keep guests busy: cocktails at 10:30 a.m. and door prizes donated by Dillard’s, such as shopping sprees, jewelry and a Coach white alligator clutch purse. One lucky guest even won a trip for two to San Francisco. Lunch was served at noon and afterwards there was a fashion show produced by Dillard’s. In addition to adult models, the show included three children recovering from leukemia, who picked out Christmas outfits and modeled them for the guests. Santa Claus also presented the children with presents donated by the department store. Entertainer Billy Flanagan made a surprise appearance and he sang Christmas tunes for the crowd, further enhancing the holiday spirit.
Through “Fête de Noël,” the LLL raised $164,000 for leukemia research. Dillard’s also donated a “day of shopping” with 15 percent off merchandise, and the money that was raised—$17,000—was donated to the group. The Ladies Leukemia League keeps most of the monetary contributions close to home, to fund local doctors’ grants and research institutions in the region.
