Design Diary: Cooking, Baking, the AIA Design Awards and the PRC Holiday Home Tour
As New Orleans tiptoes into phase three, there are both in person and virtual events going on in the coming days and weeks. Here’s what’s up:
Makin’ Bakin: Daniel Robert, curator of the meat science programs at the Southern Food & Beverage Museum teaches a curing class on Oct. 14. Learn to make artisan, dry-cured bacon at home during this two-and-a-half-hour class (masks are mandatory, and worktables will be spaced six feet apart).
Piece of Cake: During this virtual class with Joy the Baker, aka Joy Wilson, on Oct. 17, attendees will learn frosting and advanced piping techniques. Additionally, Karlee Flores, of Olive and Artisan will join Wilson to teach rose making.
The 2020 AIA New Orleans Design Awards: On Oct. 29, Bryan Batt will host the annual awards ceremony, which has gone virtual this year. The YouTube livestream will celebrate the best of the region’s architecture and the evening will include a happy hour, costume challenge and other interactive elements.
Preservation Resource Center 45th Annual Holiday Home Tour: Save the date and get your advance tickets for Dec. 12-13 for a virtual installment of this annual New Orleans tradition. View six, exquisitely designed private homes all decked out for the holidays via video tours with PRC Executive Director Danielle Del Sol who will offer history and detail about each house and its corresponding neighborhood. As always, check out the PRC events page for workshops, lectures and other events. There’s a lot going on this month.
