Design Diary: GoodWood’s Small Goods, Citywide Fish Fry at Home and NOWFE Moves to Summer

It’s time for another Design Diary roundup! Events and workshops are a bit quiet lately, likely due to Zoom fatigue, but there are still a few fun and interesting announcements and happenings to enjoy in the home realm.

Custom furniture and fabrication company GoodWood Nola launched a home accessories line at the end of last year. The Small Goods Collection includes sustainably produced, handmade cutting boards, rolling pins, serving trays, sconces and more.

COVID-19 upended our Carnival Season and we persevered with imaginative, beautiful and safely distanced house floats. Now Lenten season is in full swing but hitting the Friday night church fish fry may not be an option with many parishes changing it up or cancelling altogether due to the pandemic. Thankfully, we can still have our fried fish and eat it too with Fish Fry Fridays. The initiative benefits Hospitality Cares, a partnership between Louisiana Hospitality Foundation and United Way of Southeast Louisiana. Check the link for a list of restaurants. Each week restaurants will donate $1 per fish fry entrée sold. Eat in or order ahead for takeout (delivery is also an option with a few on the list).

The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience organizers announced this week that the popular event will take place in person June 9-13. NOWFE Executive Director Aimee Brown says in a statement that the rollout of ticket packages will assist attendees in choosing the events right for each individual and that many events will have limited attendance to comply with safety guidelines.

Meanwhile the weather is supposed to be glorious this weekend, so the dearth of online events means you’ll be free to get outside and enjoy it! Gardening, patio and porch sits and maybe some grilling out are all on tap this weekend. Cheers!
