Spring and summer always prove ripe for design events — perhaps more than ever now that we are learning how to better navigate and live with the coronavirus. Here’s a roundup of tours, plant sales and more.
May 28 is overflowing with events, including the popular Secret Garden Tour in the French Quarter, featuring private gardens and courtyards. Longue Vue House & Gardens, as well as the New Orleans Botanical Garden at City Park always have something on tap. Tai Chi and Yoga at Longue Vue tomorrow (Saturday) morning sounds divine and everything from plant sales to the Crescent City Farmers Market at the Botanical Garden couldn’t be more delightful. Speaking of plants, FAIT Nola is also popping up at Arts Market of New Orleans Saturday and Satsuma on Maple Street Sunday, so if you need some new plant babies asap, look for their mobile foliage store Axil Rose.
On June 11 and 12, the Preservation Resource Center’s Shotgun Home Tour returns with in person tours for the first time since COVID-19 lockdowns. View five fabulous homes, plus a bonus, the Hales Cottage on the campus of Children’s Hospital, which is one of the oldest buildings in Uptown, dating to the late 18th century according to the PRC. Advance tickets are on sale now. The PRC also has several other upcoming events, including a free Zoom webinar with the Historic District Landmarks Commission to help property owners understand the HDLC application process, so be sure to visit the events page.
Finally, if you haven’t already, be sure to nominate your favorite home design industry companies and professionals for the New Orleans Homes magazine Best of Home Awards. It’s such a fun way to show appreciation to the businesses and people who help keep your home, garden and pets in tip-top shape.
