The HBA of Greater New Orleans is a professional organization representing the residential construction industry and related firms, serving our members and the community since 1941. The HBA’s jurisdiction encompasses Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes and the municipalities within. The HBA of Greater New Orleans is one of the state’s oldest trade associations and one of the largest, with more than 1,000 member firms, and growing daily. As a part of the fabric of the New Orleans community, it is our mission to help rebuild this wonderful city with safe, quality housing for all.

The New Orleans Home & Garden Show, the largest consumer home show in the southeast United States, is coming to the Louisiana Superdome March 26-29, 2009. The Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans brings an unparalleled variety of home-related services and products under one gigantic roof with everything from home remodeling and decorating to green building to landscaping. The theme for this year’s show is “Design YOUR Life,” and tens of thousands of show visitors are expected during the four-day run of this extraordinary show, making the New Orleans Home & Garden Show like no other event in the area. The 2009 New Orleans Home & Garden Show will make a major new jump this year, introducing innovative and upgraded features designed with locals in mind. It will include:
Tropical Paradise Gardening School
Last year’s stunning debut display by The Plant & Palm Tropical Outlet of St. Rose created so much excitement with guests to the Home & Garden Show that we were inspired to make it even more spectacular. A stroll inside of this paradise of looming palm trees and exotic plants may have you thinking you’re on a tropical vacation. But the reality is you will be in the largest garden ever built inside the Superdome. Create the effect for yourself at home through our new Tropical Paradise Gardening School, where you will learn from a team of local experts who will help to turn even the lowliest patch of backyard space into a lush tropical heaven you will be eager to visit.
The Green Zone
Learn the latest on eco-friendly building and remodeling and see the latest in green consumer goods, including kitchen cabinets, flooring and furniture made from recycled wood. Money literally flying out the door as you inadvertently air-condition and heat your neighborhood with your drafty house? You’ll keep that cash in your pocket when you apply what you learn in the Green Zone at the Home & Garden Show. Find out from the experts what it means to be “green” and how affordable it can be. Entergy New Orleans Inc. will offer education on energy efficiency and how to build or remodel to save money on your utilities, and the HBA will tell you how to get your home a “green” rating from its new Crescent City Green program, allowing you to save on utilities and, in many cases, taxes. A tour of the highly energy-efficient home built by New Beginnings with the new Oceansafe housing system will give you a first-hand feel for how a fully green home functions.
Outrageous Outdoor Living
How do you expand your living space without adding on to your home? By creating additional “rooms” in your backyard. The Spa Shop and Clearwater Pools will create a fantasy backyard highlighting all of the advantages and amenities associated with bringing the indoors out and enjoying health and well-being in your own relaxing environment. Visit the swim spa for live demonstrations, and check out the 10-person spa with a 60-inch plasma- screen TV built right in. The space will also feature beautiful yet durable outdoor furniture, stone waterfalls and outdoor fireplaces. Guest celebrity chefs will host grilling demonstrations from a variety of outdoor kitchen arrangements. You’ll be grilling up gourmet feasts like a master in your own oasis in no time.
Ask-A-Builder
Steel or wood framing? Wood, vinyl or HardiPlank siding? Traditional or tankless water heater? What does all of this mean? Need help? Ask-a-Builder. The Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans presents a community service for residents to get expert input on how to build a new home or renovate the one they already have. You’ll have the chance to talk one-on-one with experts from the HBA’s 1,000 member firms and associate support industries who will help you make informed decisions that are right for your budget and your needs. It is the HBA’s mission to help rebuild this wonderful region with safe, quality housing for all.
Home Décor Salon
The hottest, coolest, freshest trends are showcased in our new Home Décor Salon area:
• ASID Design Emergency – Funky angles in a room? Ugly sofa that you cannot afford to replace? Your rooms just never look right no matter what you do? Bring photos and swatches for a free consultation on solving your most difficult design problems. Specialists from the American Society for Interior Design are here to help.
• Living Large In Small Spaces Showrooms – Small can be fabulous! Get ideas from some of this area’s incredible interior designers, including many with ASID credentials. • The Hot Lounge – The coolest of the cool in one hot space. Visit the lounge for your favorite libation and take in the amazing array of “can’t miss” items you’ll find at this year’s Home & Garden Show.
• Design Seminars – Learn how to Design YOUR Life. Leading industry experts will host a variety of free seminars to help you get a grip on how to get the look you want in your home.
Arts Market of New Orleans at
The Dome
New in 2009, The Arts Council of New Orleans and New Orleans Home & Garden Show will première Arts Market of New Orleans at the Dome. This exclusive collection of locally made original artwork offers the perfect solution to help Design YOUR Life.
Featuring favorites from the Arts Market of New Orleans’ lovely Palmer Park, the Arts Market of New Orleans at the Dome brings together 22 of the region’s most distinctive and exciting artists and artisans offering an affordable array of art to suit any taste and budget. New Orleans Home & Garden Show interior design experts will also be on hand to share tips on stylishly showcasing art in your home.
With everything from paintings, photographs and prints to furniture, sculpture and woodwork, this will give you the opportunity to support local artists and discover the perfect artistic addition to your home’s interior. Whether you enjoy modern design or traditional style, this season there’s no more fashionable accessory for your home than original art.

If your family includes dogs, cats or other pets, then how could you forget them when you’re looking to Design YOUR Life? Well, we didn’t forget! The Ultimate Pet Experience brought to you by Jefferson Feed and Garden is the place to have fun being a pet-owner.
Family Fun
Not only will you find so many ways to improve your home’s interior design, but you’ll also have a place this year to design your body’s interior with health in mind! Sponsored by the YMCA, this special space is a small replica of the “Y.” The Teen Section will have a pool table and other games. Kiddie Land will feature tiny tables and chairs for arts and crafts activities, and the Active Elders section will offer health screenings. There will also be aerobic exercise and karate demonstrations.
