Designers of the Week: Highlights from the 2015 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Ball

Each year, the famous and elite gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate fashion and designers. The Costume Institute Gala, better known as the Met Gala or Met Ball, is an annual fundraiser in support of the Met’s Costume Institute in New York City. This night marks the grand opening of the Institute’s annual fashion exhibit and is a chance for celebrities and designers to showcase their best and sometimes most outrageous designs. This year’s exhibit is called “China: Through the Looking Glass” and is the inspiration for all of the fashion seen on the red carpet.

The Costume Institute began as the Museum of Costume Art in 1937 and has held the annual fundraising event each May since 1948. Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue and the Trustee of the Institute since 1995, is in charge of creating the event each year and drawing the attention and attendance of the most influential individuals in film, fashion, business, music and society. Past trustees and hosts of the biggest fashion event of the year have included the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The fashion presented at the annual Gala, held last night, did not disappoint. Major trends seen on the red carpet included bold lip colors, lavish hair accessories, deep side parts, and statement eye makeup.

We’ve rounded up the looks that made us swoon to offer inspiration and ideas regarding shape, embellishment and design for your wedding gown, as well as several fantastical numbers that were just too eye-popping to leave out.
