DigniCap® Scalp Cooling System and the Spirit of Charity Foundation

Dr. Agustin C. Garcia is Section Chief for the Hematology/Oncology Department at the University Medical Center (UMC) Cancer Center in New Orleans. In this podcast interview, Dr. Garcia discusses an innovative device, the DigniCap® Scalp Cooling System. This snug-fitting cooling cap reduces hair loss significantly for patients who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Dr. Garcia explains why the cooling caps are effective and describes how they work. The UMC Cancer Center is the only hospital within 300 miles of New Orleans that has this cooling cap technology.

Because the cooling cap is considered a cosmetic procedure, insurance does not pay for the treatment. However, the public can contact the Spirit of Charity Foundation at (504) 702-3113 to donate to help provide the DIgniCap® treatment for patients in need at UMC. To contribute to this morale-boosting treatment for UMC breast cancer patients, specify that the donation is restricted to fund the DigniCap® Scalp Cooling System. Visit
