Originally a wholesale rocking chair business, Doerr Furniture was founded in 1938 by Charles L. Doerr. Through the years, Doerr Furniture has served retail furniture customers throughout the greater New Orleans area from its current location in Faubourg Marigny at the corner of Elysian Fields & Burgundy. In 1949, Doerr ’s daughter, Marilyn, married Lloyd Mutter, who would eventually run the company. He and Marilyn’s five children, Julian, Gary, David, Randy and Melanie all started working in the business as teenagers and would later become officers and managers of Doerr Furniture and its mattress subsidiary, Bedding Plus. Doerr Furniture is now a 78-year-old, fourth generation family business focused on high quality, affordable home furnishings with the largest selection of solid-wood furniture in the Gulf South.
Shane Mutter, now President and CEO of Doerr Furniture, is leading the company to the next level of growth and development while continuing to embrace and uphold its core values. His plans to incorporate more locally made furniture, mid-century modern and contemporary designs are aimed at continuing to bring in their loyal customer base, as well as reach the many new young professionals moving to the city. Doerr Furniture will continue to provide exceptional customer service and a unique selection of high quality pieces for years to come.
