As an Assistant Professor at Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Nicole Nash is fulfilling a dream that began in her earliest school days, when volunteer hours at a local hospital first sparked her passion for medicine.

“At my Catholic school in Memphis, our service hours were partly volunteering to spend time with patients at the local children’s hospital, mostly ICU patients,” explains Dr. Nash. “That time was my first introduction to medicine, which led me down the path to where I am now.”

Dr. Nash attended Vanderbilt University as a pre-med student, earning a degree in Neuroscience. During summers back home, she shadowed at a family medicine clinic, where she discovered her interest in primary care. The holistic nature of family medicine—caring for the whole person, body and mind—became her calling. That mentorship shaped her focus on long-term relationships, prevention, and continuity of care. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where she earned both her medical degree and a master’s in public health.

A lifelong athlete, Dr. Nash competed in tennis and cross-country in high school before completing a sports medicine fellowship at Southern Illinois University in Quincy. After her family medicine residency at UAMS–Southwest in Texarkana, she brought her expertise to Tulane, where she also teaches the Foundations of Sports Medicine course in the School of Professional Advancement, mentoring students—many of them current or former athletes—interested in sports-related careers.

For the past five years, Dr. Nash has practiced in Tulane’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, caring for patients from adolescence through adulthood. As a preceptor for Tulane medical students, she helps future physicians build the skills and confidence needed for patient-centered care.

“When I was in school, you could tell which residents were actually teaching and which were not,” recalls Dr. Nash. “Having real mentorship was essential to success at every step of my educational journey—having someone there day by day and grinding with you together. It really makes a difference when these students begin seeing patients every day.”

Today, Dr. Nash brings that same level of commitment to her own patients, taking the time to understand their needs and helping them take proactive steps toward lifelong wellness.

Tulane Doctors Family Medicine offers comprehensive care for patients of all ages—from preventive screenings to sports medicine and chronic disease management.
