Even if you missed the Oscars Sunday evening, odds are you heard about the fashion moments. For the spectator, the televised event has become exceedingly more about the actors’ sartorial grandiosity and less about their actual acting performances. So, when it comes to style, we expect a lot from the nominees and anyone else bold enough to pose for photos on the red carpet. This year, unlike most, the attire was a bit underwhelming. The colors were mostly predictable – black, blue, silver – and the accessories and makeup ingenuity were nonexistent. Was this subtlety intentional? Maybe, but for a pool of people who make their money based upon likability and stage presence, it seems more likely just an unfortunate lack of creativity. Nonetheless, there were a few glamorous, shining moments throughout the broadcast. Here are a few of our favorite looks and how you can create a loosely-inspired take locally. Â
