January is often the time for starting new and fresh, giving up pesky habits and creating new ones. We, at Drink Up Nola, always love a great cocktail but recently we’ve been hearing from many of you wanting non-alcoholic options for kicking off the new year. We have some fun recipes for you to try until you come back to the world of cocktails.
Stepping back from alcohol is often a challenge in our area with Mardi Gras around the corner and people beginning to gather again, safely of course. But it can be done. After all, you may drop a few pounds, eat better, sleep like a baby, save money and you may feel motivated to do other things outdoors.
Here are a few ideas for mocktails and enjoying your dry January.
Tropical Punch
Ingredients:
- Half cup pineapple juice
- One orange thinly sliced
- Four lemongrass stems
- Sparkling passion fruit
- Mint sprigs
Divide pineapple juice evenly among two ice cube trays, freeze overnight or until frozen. Diving orange slices, pineapple cubes and lemongrass among glasses. Pour over sparkling passion fruit. Top with mint to garnish.
Cranberry Sangria
Ingredients:
- One cup ice cubes
- 1/4 pineapple wedges
- 1/2 small orange wedges
- 1 passion fruit in pieces
- 2 cups cranberry juice
- 2 cups ginger beer
- Mint leaves and Pomegranate seeds
Divide ice cubes into 4 serving glasses. Put passion fruit, pineapple wedges and pineapple wedges into cups. Divide the cranberry juice and ginger beer among the glasses. Top with the mint leaves and pomegranate seeds.
Remember, if you’re heading out to your favorite bar, many bartenders will have a mocktail creation in mind. Just ask them! These drinks can still be delicious and festive and it’s a good way to make it through the month alcohol free.
