Earlier this week, I set out to find a pre-tied bow for my garland that could withstand the elements this holiday season. You might ask, why can’t you just tie your own bow? Well, I have tried that in the past and the results were wilted and sad. The bow I mastered a few years back, courtesy of an Instagram tutorial, doesn’t fit this year’s decor, plus I completely forgot how to do it!
After combing a few shops, I recalled that Dunn and Sonnier carries the most beautiful ribbon during the holidays, so I popped in to grab something. If you haven’t been there lately, I feel compelled to remind you that this is not just a floral shop. Yes, they offer beautiful arrangements, and it smells like a decadent blend of roses and cinnamon spice, but there is so much more. I was there to source a pre-tied bow, but I quickly got wrapped up in the other eye candy vying for my attention. Beautifully curated antique pieces and curiosities adorned the various rooms in a wave of sensory overload of the best kind. An hour later, instead of leaving with a bow, I wound up with several holiday gifts and an antique furniture wish list for my home.
This is a great reminder of why local shopping is so magical. What is better than wandering through a store and becoming wondrously swept up and distracted? No display or vignette of beautiful things is the same, offering whimsy and signs of the human touch at every turn.
