Eclectic Cultural Events to Attend This Weekend

 

You’d be hard press to find yourself under-stimulated this weekend if you’re out and about in Acadiana. This year’s first Artwalk will be underway with unique performances, a new local craft store is opening in Broussard and Lafayette’s first official Drag Brunch will grace the Jefferson St. Pub this Sunday. What more do you need?

 

1/12: Yoga in the Galleries, Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum: On the second Saturday morning of each month, yogis arrive in droves to this free event in a gorgeous and unconventional exercise space. Each class is led by an RYT-200 certified yoga instructor. Attendees are asked to arrive 10 minutes before the 11 a.m. class begins with their own yoga mat. The class is limited to the first 20 attendees who arrive.

1/12: Second Saturday Artwalk, downtown Lafayette: Artwalk is another cultural event that happens every second Saturday of the month.  This is the first one of 2019! One featured exhibition this month include Artspark, a collaboration with the Acadiana Center for the Arts and Lafayette Economic Development Authority. Multimedia artists to be showcased include musician Sean Broussard, writer Chere’ Coen, visual artist Lucius Fontenot and more! Another Artwalk performer is singer and cellist Ashana Sophia at Sola Violins, whose sound is a combination of indie-folk, Celtic, and ethereal sounds.  These events are free to all artwalk attendees.

1/12: Bubbles and Blues, Rock ‘N’ Bowl, Blue Monday All-stars: This all-star event features some of Lafayette’s premier blues musicians in Lafayette’s newest venue. Special guests include Grammy-nominated Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-Stars, Ray Boudreaux, Lane Mack, Michael Juan Nunez and the American Electric and more! 1/12: The Crafty Carousel Grand Opening, Broussard: Located at 201 Albertsons Parkway in Suite O, Broussard’s new art supplies and craft shop will host its grand opening for the public this Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The new shop promises to provide a colorful and engaging environment for creative types. The first 50 shoppers will receive goody bags with some of their available products. Everyone who comes in has a chance to win a silhouette cameo via a drawing, no purchase necessary. You do not have to be present to win.

1/13: Pop Divas Drag Brunch, Jefferson St. Pub: This Sunday, Jefferson St. Pub will host a new event featuring drag performances, a dance party, and a brunch buffet. Performers include Chicka LaRouxge, Amanda Rose Andrews and Miss Gay Louisiana American Kenli Andrews. Doors open at 11 a.m.; the performance commences from 12-2 p.m., and the dance party follows from 2-4 p.m. Each $10 ticket includes brunch buffet. Advance tickets are available at socialentertainment.net.
