Editor’s Note

I am finally there. Well, not finally. It’s not like I’ve been waiting on pins and needles for this. But yes, finally I am at that point in my life. I’m 24 years old and everyone around me is getting married! Everyone says you go through about a year or two, where every other weekend, you’re going to a wedding. That year is 2009 for me. And it’s June, the biggest wedding month of the year. Why anyone gets married in the heat of summer is beyond me, but to each his own, I suppose.

I guess this all started just a week ago when I attended two weddings on the same day. That’s right…and two out-of-town weddings at that. I felt like I was in that movie, 27 Dresses. It was actually quite the dilemma. My friend and co-worker Jenny (one of Renaissance Publishing’s brilliant art directors) was marrying her lovely fiancée Steve on the very same day that my boyfriend’s college buddy Whitney was getting married to his lovely fiancé, Tara. Luckily we didn’t have to choose which city we’d be traveling to, because they both happened to be in Columbus, Ohio, home of the mighty Ohio State Buckeyes.

Both weddings were flawless, and individual and unique in their own way. Now I don’t know much about Tara because I just met her the night of her wedding, but I could tell that she and Whitney were very much in love. When they first stepped out on that dance floor for their first dance, it was like they were the only two in the room. Their eyes were just locked on each other. One small detail I just have to mention that I thought was really sentimental was, Tara and Whitney got married at Salt Fork State Park, the exact same place where Tara’s parents were married 30 years ago. After that, I wasn’t so mad that it was such a long drive into the middle of nowhere.

Jenny kept her wedding very simple. She was the anti-bride. When it came to wedding planning, she didn’t care. She just wanted to marry the man she loved. At first, I thought that she was nuts. What kind of bride doesn’t care about her own wedding? But I soon realized that she was getting married for the exactly the right reasons. She just wanted to marry this man, whom she has loved for nine years (since they were in high school). Now, that will always be one of the things I love the most about Jenny.

It made me realize that I am actually lucky to be at this stage in my life. I get to see all of my wonderful friends marry the loves of their loves. While I still think they’re getting married way too young (I’m an old lady at heart), I am so fortunate that I get to witness such love. As we are growing up, I am so content to see that my closest friends have found people that make them so happy.

Two down. Two to go. Next weekend, my cousin Heather marries her one-and-only, Jeff and the weekend after that my friend Jessielynn marries her fiancé Razy. Congrats you guys. More weddings, here I come!

Jumping 10 steps ahead of weddings to babies, Lilith Dorko writes about cute fashions for little tykes in her June Confessions of a Shopaholic blog. Now, I don’t dislike children, but they’re definitely not my cup of tea … however, this month’s entry really had me giggling and reminiscing about my own childhood and the crazy outfits I used to sport. My poor mother.

Jay Forman dishes about Vizard’s and Donald Link’s new cookbook this month in his Haute Plates blog, while our Budget Fare blogger, Danny Monteverde discovers a new Mexican haunt called Si Señor.

Enjoy June everyone … and don’t forget to have a sweet summer cocktail to keep you cool.
