“Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time” – Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Elizabeth Dalferes Hubbard will serve as Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Junior League of New Orleans (JLNO) for the 2021-2022 League year. In this position, she will manage the official record of the League year, including meeting agendas and minutes; function as Parliamentarian at Board, Joint Council and General Membership meetings; and provide guidance on and ensure adherence to the organization’s governance documents, which include Bylaws, Standing Rules, Policies and Procedures. Elizabeth’s attention to detail, strong organizational skills, patience and objectivity give her the capacity to be the Chair of the Standards Committee. She works with other members and staff to maintain membership information and address member requirements. She looks forward to collaborating on and enhancing the membership experience, as well as better retaining a membership which represents all socio-demographic aspects of our community.

In her more than 10 years in JLNO, Elizabeth has served in many roles within JLNO, starting as a committee member with one of JLNO’s training programs Get on Board, and later participated as an attendee. Most recently, she has focused on governance and organization as the 2020-2021 Corresponding Secretary. Other volunteer training through Ways & Means Council Secretary, Endowment/Planned Giving, Staffing Vice-Chair, Events Committee Member, and a member of the Nominating Committee.  This helped her understand how the League is structured, what processes and procedures help run efficient committees, and what leaders can do to ensure positive community impact and member satisfaction. Through volunteering, Elizabeth has found that “there are so many people who are eager to help. No matter how busy and complicated their schedules may be, members of the League are committed to serving others through meaningful volunteer experiences and community engagement.”

Born and raised in New Orleans, Elizabeth received her BA in Communications from Newcomb College at Tulane University and a Master of Communication Disorders from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – New Orleans. She also completed a nine-month traineeship in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) in collaboration with LSU’s Human Development Center. Elizabeth is a Speech-Language Pathologist at Ochsner Health, working as part of an interdisciplinary care team in the acute/ICU setting to assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication, swallowing and voice disorders in adults.

Since joining JLNO, Elizabeth says, “I am routinely impressed by the League’s ability to adapt and mobilize resources for our community partners. By participating in partnership programs with Second Harvesters, the Diaper Bank or Disaster Relief drives, I appreciate the size and depth of the League’s networking capabilities to help allocate needed resources for our region in a timely and efficient manner.”

She and her husband, Brad, have two precious pups, Scout and Atticus, and love live music and to travel. Elizabeth has previously served on the Board of Directors for The Advocacy Center of Louisiana, now titled Disabilities Rights Louisiana and is a former member of the Young Leadership Council, and Child Life volunteer at CHNOLA.
