Dedicated to helping those who are less fortunate, the Ozanam Inn’s Century Club hosted their 31st gala at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel that included a patron party, gourmet dinner, award ceremony and silent auction.
Established in 1995, the Ozanam Inn was created by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic charitable organization. The inn provides food and clothing, counseling and rehabilitation programs, career development and training, medical treatment and assistance in finding housing.
The gala was chaired by committee members Fred and Karen Kirchgraber, Paul Claudel, Deacon Biaggio and Mona DiGiovanni, Art Riley, Clarence Adams, Michel E. Lanaux, Sandra Norman, and Dave Daigle.
The honorary chair couple for this year was Dr. Jack and Mrs. Priscilla Andonie. Jack Andonie was awarded for his years of service to the Inn, and for helping develop a connection with Ozanam and Louisiana State University School of Dentistry to provide dental services. Robert Haskins Sr. was also recognized for his service.
Special master of ceremonies was Jonathan Myers of WWL-TV. During the patron party, guests were served hors d’oeuvres while being serenaded by guitarist John Rankin. Local businesses and supermarkets donated to the event.
The dinner included a steak dinner provided by the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel, along with green salads and Southern pecan pie. Live entertainment included Banu Gibson and her Hot Jazz Band and the John Mahoney Band.
The night concluded with a silent auction headed by Bridget DiGiovanni. Among the 80 items, two of the memorable ones were the Saints helmet signed by quarterback Drew Brees and an autographed poster of Pope John Paul II when he visited New Orleans in 1987.
