The evening of the 12th “Nocturne Piano Recital and Gala” at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel had the air of elegance that friends of the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans enjoy.
The Champagne Reception, with hot and cold appetizers, was well attended and set the stage for an exciting evening of music. This year the featured artist was acclaimed American pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, accompanied by her husband Michael and their Maltese, Samantha. Latter & Blum sponsored the recital program, which included the “Second English Suite” of J.S. Bach, two sonatas of Franz Josef Haydn, the beautiful Schumann/Liszt transcription of “Widmung” and “Soirée de Vienne” by A. Grunfeld. After receiving multiple standing ovations, McDermott performed two encores: one of Brahms’ “Intermezzi” and another Haydn sonata movement.
“Anne-Marie McDermott was just splendid. Her exquisite playing blended with her lovely personality and impeccable charm easily made her one of my favorite artists we have ever hosted in New Orleans,” commented Cara McCool, Executive Director of MASNO. Also in attendance was James Farrow, President of MASNO and Co-Chair, Anne Gauthier, President-Elect and Co-Chair, and Emel Songu Mize, Immediate Past-President and Co-Chair.
McDermott joined guests for a delicious three-course dinner prepared by the culinary team of the Ritz-Carlton, Table centerpieces, arranged in all white by Federico’s Florists, included roses, hydrangeas and lilies presented in white china bowls.
