Held at the Roosevelt Hotel on March 4, the 2010 Campaign Celebration for the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans was an evening of inspiration.

Chaired by Morton H. Katz and Jackie Gothard, the party and awards ceremony featured guest speaker Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of NBA fame. Abdul-Jabbar, who currently serves as the special assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, is also intellectually active, having penned six bestselling history books.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the fifth annual Roger Bissinger Memorial Award, which was given to local activist and volunteer Dana Shepard. Shepard serves on the executive committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans as vice president. She is also a co-advisor of the 2009-’11 Lemann-Stern Young Leadership Class, and has been dedicated in numerous other ways.

Guests enjoyed a kosher-style dessert reception following the awards presentation. The event helped raise funds for local nonprofits and Jewish social work agencies overseas.

Sponsors of the event included Herman, Herman, Katz & Cotlar, LLP; Latter & Blum Inc./Realtors; and Whitney Bank.
