Events To Cure Post-Holiday Blues

By now, the Christmas lights are taken down, and I’ve got the post-holiday blues. What to do after weeks of holiday parties? Do I exist outside of a cocktail dress? Why is water somehow not as enjoyable as champagne? Fear not. As we adjust to the new decade, lots of events in and around Lafayette will make the transition a little smoother.

Even if there are no more Christmas lights and mimosa Tuesdays.

 

1/9: Silent Disco: Grab your earbuds, air pods and headphones for a quiet rave this Thursday! The Office Bar is bringing back the silent disco every second Thursday of the month. Multiple DJs will play at once, and you choose which songs to dance to. Here is all you need to know: doors open at 9 p.m. Cover is $5 before 10 p.m., and drinks are $2 all night.

1/10: Prohibition Picnic: Ready to kick off the new ‘20s right? Alexander Books will host Dr. Daylight’s Jazz Co. this Friday evening for a modern take on the 1920s throwback. Dr. Daylight will transform pop songs into jazz standards, and blend in some traditional jazz standards as well. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at this link or for $20 at the door. The party starts at 7 p.m. and goes until 10!

1/10: Connections January Luncheon: Connections Professional Women’s Networking Organization will welcome speaker Kenetra Adams. Adams is living her dream as a singer/songwriter, contributing writer and inspirational speaker. Her music is empowering with a message of encouragement. Gain insight on how to make your dream a reality from 11:30-1 p.m. at the Petroleum Club, where the ladies meet on the first Friday of every month.

1/10-1/12: Frozen Jr.: The talented kids of Wonderland Performing Arts will bring the Disney classic “Frozen” to the Acadiana Center for the Arts this weekend! The show kicks off with a Disney dance party one hour before curtain call. Magical surprises and musical numbers abound. Costumes are encouraged! Tickets can be purchased for evening and matinee performances here.

1/11: Salsa Dance Workshop: Glide Studio and Latino Pulse will come together Saturday afternoon for dance enthusiasts and beginners. From 2-3 p.m., you can learn and review salsa fundamentals, with salsa steps and partner pairings. From 3-4 p.m., dancers will go over technique, styling and fun combinations for you and your partner! The workshop is $10 for one class, or $15 for both. This is open to all!
