NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots is welcoming back a fan favorite event with the return of Exotic Animal Racing. Held on Saturday, January 29, the popular event features one heat each of camels, ostriches and zebras ran between 9 thoroughbred races. The event is presented by Miller Lite, Fair Grounds Official Presenting Partner.
The event has been a staple at The Fair Grounds since 2012 with sellout crowds each year. The property was unable to host the event last year due to Covid restrictions and are excited to host the family friendly event for the community again this year.

We provide the best thoroughbred racing in the state and have had a great start to the season. Three total Exotic Animal races will take place on the 29th. One heat each for Camels, Zebra’s and Ostriches. Doors open at 12 noon with post time taking place at 1:05pm. Fans are encouraged to arrive early with the exotic races as the exotic races are currently scheduled to run just after the 2:25, 3:40 and 4:55 races respectively. First post of the 9 thoroughbred races is 1:05pm.
General Admission (GA) and Club House (CH) Admission can be purchased at the door the day of the event for $5 GA and $15 CH for everyone 13 and older. Children 12 and under receive free admission.
All Grandstand and Club House box seats are open seating and on a first-come, first-served basis. Alternatively you can also purchase tables in the Club House dining room in advance. Pricing includes the admission charge and are $100 for a 4-top or $150 for a 6-top. Reservations can be made Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. by calling 504.943.2200. Several local cuisine food truck and pop-up options will be available for purchase.
Valet options are available at the event at $15 for regular parking and $25 for VIP parking.
