Founded almost 50 years before America, Ursuline Academy of New Orleans is the first all-girls’ Catholic school in the nation. The Academy’s nurturing community, diverse by design, fuels every girl’s success. Students with different backgrounds, beliefs and talents feel part of a sisterhood at Ursuline.
Starting in early childhood, Ursuline’s Reggio Emilia-inspired approach builds each girl’s confidence, social-emotional resiliency and appreciation of others. Continuing through the Academy, an all-girls’ environment empowers girls to challenge themselves, explore outside their comfort zones and expand what they are capable of achieving. At Ursuline, girls gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
The Academy welcomes its incoming president, Dr. Karen G. Jakuback, who joins the Ursuline family with great excitement. “I am honored and deeply humbled to lead Ursuline Academy and follow in the great tradition of Catholic education for girls, begun by the Sisters in 1727,” says Dr. Jakuback. “It is an exciting time at Ursuline as we combine the trailblazing spirit of the Sisters with innovative learning strategies to form girls in academic excellence and faith – preparing them to be confident and compassionate leaders in a global society.”
