Neil Johnson
Neil Johnson knows and loves every corner of Louisiana—from his home in the northern piney woods to the southern marshes to the restaurants and music halls of New Orleans. His famous book, Louisiana Journey, is the only coffee-table photography book to truly portray the entire state. Johnson has spent 34 years as a commercial photographer and 23 of those years teachinghis art form on the side.
His commercial work includes architecture, advertising, portraiture, corporate, industrial, and product. Based in Shreveport, Johnson produced the massive millennium art project, Portrait 2000, made up of 2,000 individual portraits, for his community. In 2012, he received the Michael P. Smith Memorial Award for Documentary Photography from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
