Ochsner Health’s Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Tiffany Murdock found her way to nursing through faith and loss. After attending a medical mission trip to Guatemala with a group of inspiring nurses while in college, she witnessed firsthand how critical compassionate, accessible care is for every community. Learning of her own mother’s cancer diagnosis upon her return further fueled her passion for nursing and helping others through whatever health journeys they may face.

A graduate of Jacksonville University, Murdock also received a master’s degree in business so she could have a seat at the table with hospital leadership. In her current role, Murdock’s mission is to amplify the voices of the more than 10,000 nurses that are employed at Ochsner. “With that many voices, I believe you can change the world and certainly change healthcare for the communities we serve,” Murdock said.

Since joining Ochsner in 2023, Murdock has launched a Nurse Leader Retreat, embarked on listening tours across Ochsner’s footprint, secured technology to optimize effectiveness and efficiencies in patient care and encourages professional development so that each nurse at Ochsner can meet their individual career goals. As the largest employee population group in the system, nurses are essential to the care that patients appreciate and expect from Ochsner.

“The role of a nurse in modern healthcare is vitally important,” explained Murdock. “Nurses are decisive multi-taskers, who must make quick, educated and data-driven decisions at the bedside, on the unit and in both inpatient and outpatient settings, all while delivering both routine and complex patient care. I’m proud to bring their perspective directly to our leadership team and advocate for advancements in the profession.”

For frontline nurses, technology and modern methods of care are crucial to optimize their day-to-day effectiveness and Ochsner is committed to providing the necessary tools and platforms needed to not only streamline tasks, but also allow nurses to safely provide compassionate care. A patient’s journey and experience, whether in the hospital or in a clinical setting, begins and ends with a nurse. Their assessments provide physicians with vital information and working as a team, treat that patient with the highest quality of care.

“Nurses are truly the face of healthcare—they are the faces patients see each day, more than any other healthcare provider. If you want to be challenged, if you want to have a career that has limitless opportunity while keeping a purpose and passion, then Ochsner is the place for you,” said Murdock. “I’m better at each role I’ve had in healthcare because I am a nurse.”
