NOLA Detox & Recovery Center was built on a simple belief: people should not have to leave New Orleans to get high-quality addiction treatment. Founders Dan Forman and Chris Copeland, both in long-term recovery, created a program rooted in strong clinical care and real human connection.
The organization’s original location in Algiers has become a trusted resource for patients and families across the Greater New Orleans area. Today, NOLA Detox is the largest and most comprehensive addiction treatment provider in New Orleans. Building on that foundation, the organization is expanding in a meaningful way with the opening of its Slidell Campus. The new facility brings a full continuum of care, including detox, residential treatment, outpatient programming, and sober living, to a part of the region that has long needed greater access to high-quality, structured treatment.
“We are proud of what we have built in New Orleans, and we are continuing to grow with purpose,” says Forman. “Slidell allows us to reach families on the Northshore and deliver the same level of care people often feel like they have to leave Louisiana to find. We are raising the standard for what treatment can look like in this region.”
The Slidell campus was designed to support longer lengths of stay and more stable transitions into recovery, with programming that meets patients where they are clinically while also preparing them for what comes next. From medical detox through residential care and into outpatient services, the focus is on continuity, accountability, and real-world readiness.
What sets NOLA Detox apart is the combination of advanced medical and psychiatric treatment with a level of comfort that helps people stay engaged. Patients are cared for by experienced addiction doctors, supported by a high staff-to-patient ratio and strong clinical oversight. At the same time, the environment is intentionally welcoming, with comfortable rooms, quality food, and thoughtful touches that make treatment feel more human rather than institutional.
“We have learned that when people feel cared for, they stay longer,” says Copeland. “And when they stay longer, outcomes improve. It really is that simple.”
In a space often defined by out-of-state ownership and standardized care, NOLA Detox has built a program that is both clinically rigorous and deeply rooted in the local community. Forman and Copeland remain closely connected to patients and families, and that involvement often extends beyond treatment, helping patients transition into stable housing, employment, and long-term support through relationships built during their time in the program.
Many members of the NOLA Detox team are in recovery themselves or are alumni of the program. That lived experience creates a level of trust and understanding that patients immediately recognize, and it reinforces a culture where accountability and support go hand in hand.
NOLA Detox is also a preferred in-network provider with major insurance carriers and partners with leading medical institutions, ensuring that patients receive care that meets high clinical and regulatory standards while remaining accessible to families across the region.
As addiction continues to impact families across Louisiana, NOLA Detox is focused on expanding access, raising the standard of care, and showing that lasting recovery is possible right here in New Orleans.
