Each spring, the Pantone Color Institute, authority on all things hue-related, releases its color lineup for the next season. The Pantone website says these colors are curated each year from those seen on the runway at New York Fashion Week and, for the first time ever, London Fashion Week.
There are 10 colors in this fall’s report from New York Fashion Week, and none of them disappoint. They are bookended by two burnt orange/red hues and the middle is filled with beautiful complementary colors – four of which stand out the most. These colors include Tawny Port, Ballet Slipper, Navy Peony and Shaded Spruce.
Tawny Port is a rich, wine color that emulates past 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala. However, this hue is a darker, fig-like color. Ballet Slipper is a simple, sweet pink we are sure is going to be a popular nail color in the upcoming months. Navy Peony is a rich, darker blue color, while Shaded Spruce is a deep, sultry turquoise.
Though those are a few of our favorites, we know that the whole color lineup will be extremely popular this upcoming fall season. Below catch the official Pantone descriptions of all 10 fall New York colors.
PANTONE 17-1558 Grenadine
"A powerful, evocative, dynamic red, Grenadine is a confident and self-assured attention-getter."
PANTONE 19-1725 Tawny Port
"Taking the Red family to new depths, Tawny Port is elegant, sophisticated, and tasteful."
PANTONE 13-2808 Ballet Slipper
"Descended from the Red family but with a softer touch, Ballet Slipper is always flattering and reminiscent of the rosy glow of health."
PANTONE 16-1341 Butterum
"This snug, warming, and toasty shade is evocative of drinking a glass of Butterrum by a roaring fire on a cool autumn evening."
PANTONE 19-4029 Navy Peony
"A mainstay for the season for both palettes, Navy Peony is a dependable and an anchoring shade. Solid and stable, the hue takes some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral."
PANTONE 17-4402 Neutral Gray
"The standard bearer of all neutrals, Neutral Gray shares the anchoring role with Navy Peony in this palette. It can be used as an accent or a head-to-toe statement shade."
PANTONE 19-4524 Shaded Spruce
"This is a green you might see in the forest – sheltering and protective as evergreen trees."
PANTONE 16-0543 Golden Lime
"Earthy tones with a twist, the golden undertones of Golden Lime makes this yellow-green shade a refreshing complement to fall classics."
PANTONE 17-4041 Marina
"Cool with an enhanced vitality, Marina is the only truly cool color in the fall palette that brings with it freshness and brightness."
PANTONE 17-1145 Autumn Maple
"A quintessential autumn color, Autumn Maple is tawny and russet, introducing warmth into the palette."
The 10 hues inspired by London Fashion Week are surprisingly a bit brighter than the New York set, but also include a classy light pink and Navy Peony. Though most are a more neutral color, our favorite has to be Flame Scarlet. This bright red is just the right accent to those cold fall and winter nights. There is also a Royal Lilac that is going to be great as an accent in a scarf or shirt detail against other fall colors. Additionally, the lineup includes a perfect neutral tan color, Toast. Our idea of toast would be a bit darker, to each their own toast preference, but this camel-like color would make for a dreamy coat, a great scarf to complete a look or a stellar bag color.
