Ahhh… the smell of fall is in the air. Leaves start to turn, the weather gets crisp. No, wait, we live in New Orleans, REWIND.
Fall for us means the beginning of oyster season, the temps and humidity go down slightly, festivals get revved up and our energy levels seems to go through the roof. What’s better than autumn in the city? This is the time of year many local bars thank their lucky stars they made it through the tough summer months.
Many places are now rolling out end of year drink menus –so, cocktail lovers be warned, bartenders are pulling out all creative stops to make sure we are satisfied and come back wanting more.
Picnic Provisions & Whiskey (714 State St.) is the new corner spot on State and Magazine streets featuring great casual and comfortable food. The cocktail menu here is equally as good. While there is not a traditional happy hour, there are great specials that we find fun and appealing. First, there is a daiquiri machine which features different selections on different days. Right now the mango-colada is on tap, which includes sugar cane rum, lime juice and simple syrup. There are a variety of whiskeys, tequilas, rums and wine. And, you must try the Miss Ella Old Fashioned.
Carousel Bar & Lounge (214 Royal St.) has its new fall menu that may inspire a visit. Options include the Vieux Carré, Sazerac, Fleur Des Lis and the Handshaken Pina Colada. Cocktails range from $12-$15 and are sure to satisfy your thirst. This is a great stop anytime.
Second Line Brewing (433 Bernadotte St.) in Mid-City is neighborhood friendly and full of locally brewed craft beer. There is a lot happening for their 3rd anniversary celebrations – everything from Monday night football showings, movie nights, bands and great specials on select brews. Soon, the team will be rolling out Russian Imperial Stout with coconut, vanilla, and cacao nibs. It’s dog friendly and the beer garden is a great go-to spot for craft and local beer. Maybe we’ll see you there.
These are just a few hot spots around town. If you have a favorite, let us know so we can check them out and let cocktail lovers know what is happening around town. Cheers!
