NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Gianna is offering the traditional Italian-American Christmas dinner, known as the “Feast of the Seven Fishes,” for two nights only – Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. Chef de Cuisine Jared Heider’s Feast of the Seven Fishes menu is available as a communal, family-style dinner. The price includes featured table wines to complement the menu, which will vary each night.
The special Feast of the Seven Fishes menu will start with antipasti of marinated white anchovies with focaccia and calamari spiedini with charred citrus. The primi course will include shrimp ravioli with lemon and shrimp nage and rigatoni al tonno with confit tuna, capers, and tomatoes. Served with the secondi course will be grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes and ‘nduja along with whole roasted Gulf fish and baked mussels with saffron, fennel, and bread crumbs. The menu’s contorni, or side dishes, include pancetta braised greens and fennel roasted carrots. The special menu concludes with a dolce of sfingi with ricotta and chocolate.
Feast of the Seven Fishes stems from the Catholic tradition of abstinence, whereby Catholics would refrain from eating meat on the night before Christmas Day. In exchange, they would honor the occasion without breaking tradition by feasting on fish instead.
A limited number of tickets, 50 per night, are available for $120 per person, plus tax and gratuity. For reservations, please visit https://resy.com/cities/no?date=2021-11-23&seats=2&query=gianna.
