Sandra Dartus is a partner in FestiGals. How did FestiGals begin? According to Sandra, “Diane Lyons had this idea that—you know—we have a tomato festival, we have a seafood festival, and we even have a gay men's festival with Southern Decadence, so why not do something to celebrate women?” Each year, FestiGals offers an empowering weekend for women and in the process, supports women’s causes like the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans, and Breastoration. This year’s FestiGals events will run from June 11 to June 14. To celebrate its fifth anniversary, FestiGals will feature a very special piece of auction art created by artist Laurie Flecks. In this podcast, Sandra describes the festival and Laurie shares the story of the special work of art’s journey to New Orleans, and the symbolism associated with it.
The weekend will feature 26 different events, from home tours to informative and educational forums with some of New Orleans' most influential women, including healthcare seminars on women’s health topics. Sandra points out that men can also get involved by joining in the Stiletto Stroll on June 13, 2015. For more information, go to FestiGals.org.
