Finding Your Inner Gilded Age Style

This is NOT a wedding dress post. However, it is inspired by the recent (and fabulously dramatic) nuptials of Gladys Russell on “The Gilded Age.” Sure, Gladys is a fictional character, but her storyline closely parallels the storied marriage of Consuleo Vanderbilt and Charles, the ninth Duke of Marlborough. Just like Gladys, Consuleo was a “dollar princess,” shorthand for an American heiress forced to marry a noble Englishmen to gain a foothold into English society. It’s not a great way to inspire an epic love story, but it sure was entertaining. Many of these contrived marriages were doomed from the start, but fashion lives on. Perennially inspired by the textures, colors and drama associated with a Gilded Age wedding, I’ve pulled together some options to help you channel your inner Buccaneer bride. No dowry required.
