Approximately 2,000 food-lovers rejoiced Friday, April 4, at the Seventh Annual Taste of the Town culinary event. Thrown by the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Louisiana Restaurant Association and The Patrons of Lafreniere Park, Taste of the Town gathered restaurateurs at 7 p.m., for the party that, although originally scheduled to be held at Lafreniere Park, was held on the parking lot of East Jefferson General Hospital due to severe weather. EJGH’s CEO Dr. Mark Peters and staff members graciously aided the transition.
The culinary showcase featured dishes by over 60 restaurants, including Drago’s, Arnaud’s, Besh Steakhouse at Harrah’s Casino, Galatoire’s, Brennan’s Restaurant, The Court of Two Sisters, Commander’s Palace, Café Giovanni, Mr. B’s Bistro, Ralph’s on the Park, Sucré and Wolfe’s in the Warehouse.
Liquor and beer at the event were provided by Miller Brewing Company, Southern Eagle, Glazer’s Companies of Louisiana, Republic National Distributing Company and Pat O’Brien’s. Coca-Cola, Community Coffee, CONCO Food Service, River Parish Disposal, SYSCO Food Services and TLC Linen Services acted as supporting contributors. Presenting sponsor was Cox Communications and event sponsor was Cadillac-Hummer of Metairie.
Tommy Cvitanovich, owner of Drago’s Seafood Restaurant, served as event chairman, and Tom Fitzmorris of New Orleans Menu served as honorary chair. Funds raised at the event benefited the Patrons of Lafreniere Park and the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation.
