Food Truck Fest on Freret

You may have seen something about the “Rolling Through” series of food truck events in one venue or another recently. Technically the last of those events is Tuesday, June 25, when a diverse group of mobile vendors including Grilling Shilling, Empanada Intifada, The NOLA Truck, NOLA Pie Guy, Rue Chow, Frencheeze and Food Drunk will gather at Press and Dauphine streets in the Bywater. The Rolling Through parties have included live music, beer by the Boston Brewing Company and drinks by New Orleans Rum as well as the food, and apparently they've been successful enough that My House NOLA, which has been the principal organizer, is putting another one together for Wednesday, June 26, at 5030 Freret St., the location of co-sponsor Dat Dog.

The Wednesday shindig runs from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and in addition to sausages by Dat Dog will include food from La Cocinita, Food Drunk, The Fat Falafel, Nate The Pie Guy, Empanada Intifada and Mamita's Hot Tamales. There's a fair bit of space in the general vicinity of Dat Dog, and when you consider the size of the restaurant's patio, it should be a perfect venue for a block party of this nature. There's no cost to attend, other than what you pay for the food, of course, and it's a great way to sample some of the great stuff coming out of mobile kitchens in one convenient location. So why not go? What, are you too good to eat food from a truck?

Should you deign to attend, you might also learn something about My House NOLA, which is a pretty neat business. Essentially they serve as an agent for food trucks and other caterers. If you need a way to feed a crowd at an event, and want something different, they can provide one or more food trucks. From the perspective of the folks driving the mobile kitchens, My House NOLA provides access to customers and venues where they don't have to worry about the sometimes byzantine regulations imposed by parish and municipal governments. It's a win-win, is what I'm saying. Incidentally, by writing “Food Trucks,” I have just increased my google index by approximately 972 percent among today's youth. FOOD TRUCKS, the kids love 'em. FOOD TRUCKS FOOD TRUCKS MUMFORD & SONS FOOD TRUCKS FIXED GEAR BICYCLE THAT I MADE MYSELF.

Are you a food truck aficionado? If so, I have some questions for you: What's your favorite? Where and how did you find it first? Do you use social media to keep tabs on those you like, or do you prefer to just stumble upon them?
