On May 21, the Greater New Orleans Section of the National Council of Jewish Women gathered at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel for the Hannah G. Solomon Awards Luncheon. Women of the Storm was recognized for “Outstanding Community Activism on Behalf of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast” and Carol Good was the special award recipient.
Ina Davis, president of the New Orleans Section of the NCJW, welcomed guests. Rabbi Andy Busch of Touro Synagogue gave the invocation. Julie Schwam Harris, deputy director of Intergovernmental Relations for the City of New Orleans, and Margot Garon, chair of the luncheon, spoke and presented the award to Carol Good. Good is an active volunteer in the community, serving as chair of Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY). She has also served in leadership positions in state legislation, public affairs and the Jewish Coalition for Literacy.
