Free Art Showings, New Workshops and More in Acadiana

This weekend brings free artistic experiences in various capacities. We are a musically inclined community, and that will be on full display this Saturday with the annual unveiling of the Festival International de Louisiane poster and pin! This coincides with Artwalk, as does the spring exhibition at the University art museum. You can also learn how to get salon-tier styles at home, learn a new dance style and bowl for a great cause, too!

2/6: Ladies Night In: Magnolia Salon and Parlour welcomes women of all ages and hair types to indulge in a decadent evening while learning something new. For $35, attendees will learn ways to style their own hair at home and will take a tool kit with them at the end of the evening. Wine and charcuterie will be served throughout the evening. The party starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call the salon at (337) 534-8259.

2/7: Spring Exhibition Opening Reception: The Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum will open its spring collection this Friday evening. Come check out the new exhibitions at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s art museum with cocktails and light refreshments from Dripping Springs Vodka and Bread & Circus Provisions. Members are invited to get an exclusive look from 4-6 p.m., and the public is welcome to peruse the gallery from 6-8 p.m. This is a free event.

2/8: Le Carnaval du Festival: See the 2020 Festival International pin and lineup this Saturday at Jefferson St. Pub for the official unveiling party during Artwalk! This year’s theme combines Louisiana and Haiti’s Carnival/Mardi Gras cultures. Attendees will hear a surprise act from Haiti and will have the opportunity to see the new pin and poster for the year. This year’s artist, Tommy Hughes, will be on site, so you can get your poster signed! Lots of artwork will be up for auction as well. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the lineup will be revealed at 7:30 p.m.

2/8: Salsa Sin Fronteras Workshop: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Latino Pulse brings its wildly popular salsa dance workshop series to The Ballet Académie this Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Beginners are to arrive at 2 p.m. for an hour-long workshop on basics, partner work and fundamentals. Intermediate dancers should arrive at the 3 p.m. workshop to expand partner practice, learn combinations, turns and footwork, and enhance their overall skills. Dancers may attend both workshops. Each workshop is $10, but the package deal is $15. For more information, call (337) 280-5211.

2/9: Sweetheart Bowl: Rock’n’Bowl invites you to bowl for a cause this Sunday at the LHF 2020 Sweetheart Bowl, benefitting the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation. From 11 a.m.- 1:30 p.m., a $25 donation gets you a kid-friendly game that benefits a great cause. To RSVP, email Outreach@lahemo.org or call (225-291-1675)
