NEW ORLEANS (press release) – The Friends of Bayou St. John, the nonprofit organization that hosts the annual Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo, is pleased to announce that the organization has been awarded funding from Keep Louisiana Beautiful via this year’s Greener Grounds Grant for Louisiana’s Large Outdoor Events for the second year in a row.
This funding will enable the organization to have an even stronger litter and waste reduction and recycling efforts at this year’s Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo festival happening May 16-18 on the banks of Bayou St. John. Funding will be put toward litter and waste containers, recycling efforts and strategies for litter prevention and waste reduction.
As always, Friends of Bayou St. John remains committed to making the Boogaloo a leading eco-friendly festival, and thanks Keep Louisiana Beautiful for its support in that goal. In 2024, the festival’s eco-friendly efforts resulted in 220 lbs of aluminum, 295 lbs of plastic, 320 lbs of glass and 35 lbs of cardboard recycled. In addition, 2018 reusable cups were used leading to a total diversion of 1395 lbs diverted from landfill.
