Friends of New Orleans Public Library holds a used book sale at Algiers Regional every Saturday. But on Saturday, Nov. 4, they will be pitching a tent outside the library to showcase extra stock for bargain-hunting book lovers.
“We know that people are getting ready for holiday gift giving, so we wanted to be sure to give our West Bank patrons an opportunity to take a look at some of the great used books that we have available,” says Shanann Cvitanovic, executive director of the Friends. “You can find some real treasures here, and you can shop knowing that your purchase is supporting the programs at the Library.”
So where did all of these great used books come from?
Book-lovers across Metro New Orleans donate their books to Friends to show their support for the New Orleans Public Library and its programs. Volunteers work year-round in preparation for the event, processing thousands of books each year.
Where do the proceeds go? Friends supports the public programs of the New Orleans Public Library, including Summer Fun Reading Challenge, Sensory Friendly storytime for neurodivergent children, programs at the REACH Center and the Louisiana Division, and so much more. We are also proud to provide scholarships to NOPL employees who are completing their Masters of Library Science degrees.
It’s so much more than a booksale – it is a celebration of reading, of lifelong learning, and, most importantly, of our beloved public libraries.
