August in New Orleans means two things to many: summer heat and back to school.
It’s a time when most take shelter indoors, plan on getting their schedules back in order after summer breaks and vacations and dream about cooler weather…still a long way away.
We take a look this month at two of those very August issues. First, we have a dive into the digital world of learning and get insights into how kids today can get the best education at home and in the classroom.
Second, along with the summer heat comes the risk of tropical storms, and while many of us get our evacuation and home plans in order, it’s just as important to plan for those family treasures that might get overlooked. A New Orleans Museum of Art expert gives us the top tips to prepare your family photos so the memories stay high and dry despite any weather situations the late summer brings us.
August is also our annual Top Doctors issue. This month we highlight a doctor at the top of his profession with our cover story of Dr. Chad Millet from Southern Orthopaedic Specialists. It’s a story of learning, dreaming, perseverance and the achievement of a lifetime of rewarding practice.
Beyond weathering the summer storm of heat, humidity and possible hurricanes, New Orleanians find a way to enjoy our community, through food, fun and lots of cultural activities. We highlight, as always, the best ways to stay busy all month long.
