Summer is here and the heat (and humidity) is on! Weather advisories warn to stay inside during the hottest part of the day, if possible. Ice is the hottest commodity in town. You break a sweat just checking your mailbox. In our search for ways to escape the heat we’ve come up with some creative and flavorful ways to stay cool.

Our cover story focuses on frozen treats, or A/C for your insides. Whether you love a soft serve cone, a cup of something sinful, seasonal sorbet or snocones, we have the tastiest ways to refresh your palate.

Refill your creative palette with our feature on crafty ways to have fun inside (emphasis again on A/C). Warm up your hot glue guns and gather your supplies! From sewing, costume making, and ceramics to culinary concoctions and community events, we have classes and workshops to scratch your creative itch. Plus it’s a great way to get together with friends, or make new ones, while learning a new skill.

The United States makes 250 this Fourth of July. We challenged columnist Mike Scott to New Orleans’ role in the Revolution, and we learn all about a bang-up adventure across the Gulf, through a hurricane and into the history book.

As always, we have plenty more fun ways to fill your summer, with fresh warm weather menus and recipes, travel escapes, style and décor and more.

Crank up the air conditioner. The summer is here for a spell. Stay cool out there!
