Summer is officially here and now is the best time to dive into all the fun. My kids always looked forward to the opening of the family pool and we spent long afternoons watching them practice elaborate dives off the diving board, competing with cousins in pool noodle-related activities and wearing themselves out in the water. We were lucky to have access to both a family pool as well as watchful family members that gave swim instructions on safety and staying afloat in a careful way. And, of course, the kids were never left alone to their swimming fun.
In this issue, we explore ways for kids and adults to learn swim safety across New Orleans, with lessons for baby and beyond so that, hopefully, a new generation of swimmers can enjoy cooling off each summer.
For those looking for a quick escape, we have a road trip just down the bayou, embracing the culture, community and fun to be had with our neighbors in Grand Isle. Generations have made memories in this little fishing town, and many more travel to participate in the annual tarpon rodeo and, now, Blue Boot Rodeo. It’s worth the drive to experience a part of Louisiana that maintains is identity, its strength of character and lasting cultural legacy.
And, as always, we have all the news you need to make your June fun and festive, from Pride celebrations to summer menus, recipes, style and more. Things are just starting to heat up, so take advantage of the long summer days before the swelter sets in.
Enjoy!
