Finding the perfect wedding gift for your friend or family member can be a daunting task. There is always the registry, which is what you should go to first, but sometimes it’s nice to pair a local New Orleans pick into the mix.
One idea is pairing registry kitchen items with a local cookbook that features traditional New Orleans and Louisiana recipes (Kelly here, I do this a lot and it’s always a hit). Even if the couple is not from the area, New Orleans flavors and cooking is usually appreciated by the masses.
This month, two local titans in the culinary scene have released new cookbooks. Yesterday saw the official launch of GW Fins’ Chef Tenney Flynn’s cookbook “The Deep End of Flavor.” This book adds a little something extra as each recipe is paired with a wine or cocktail recipe.
At the end of this month, but currently available for pre-order, radio host, culinary activist and the new queen of the New Orleans Drag Brunch Poppy Tooker’s new drag cookbook “Drag Queen Brunch.” Readers are treated to brunch staples, entertaining stories and a bit of history in this gorgeous tome – with drag queen Vinsantos gracing the cover – that could easily double as a coffee table book.
When thinking of the perfect wedding gift, sometimes it’s OK to stray from traditional and add a little New Orleans flavor the mix.
