Fuselier-McConnell Wedding

When Melissa Lee McConnell and John Prentice Fuselier wed on August 7, it was a culmination of a journey that took them from where they grew up—Melissa in Mobile, Ala., Prentice in New Orleans—then meeting at University of Alabama, moving to Colorado, and ultimately relocating to New Orleans. The wedding took place in Mobile, starting with the ceremony at the Ashland Place United Methodist Church. Melissa chose a Vera Wang strapless off-white English tulle dress with a geometric bodice, which was complemented by a veil made from her mother’s all-lace wedding dress. The bridesmaids also wore Vera Wang—pale lavender (iris) satin dresses with a chiffon overlay in the bodice—from Town & Country. Melissa carried a bouquet of gardenias accented with Swarovski crystal butterflies, while the bridesmaids held white calla lilies. Dennis Harris of Zimlich Florist in Mobile produced all the wedding’s floral displays.
The reception was at the Mobile Country Club, which was decorated in an all-white theme. Each table was covered with white antique tablecloths from Melissa’s family, and the rest of the country club was adorned in white flowers of all varieties—hydrangeas, roses, orchids, belles of Ireland—that were highlighted with greenery. Japanese lanterns broke up the color scheme and hung magically above the dance floor. The entertainment for the wedding was Style, a Motown-sounding band. The wedding and groom’s cakes were by Malise Wood, with the five-tier wedding cake dressed up with gardenias, white hydrangeas and more Swarovski crystal butterflies, while the groom’s cake paid homage to Prentice and Melissa’s days in Colorado—a spice cake with cappuccino icing, topped with powdered sugar (to look like snow) and figures of skiers.
The honeymoon, alas, was postponed to early 2005, when Melissa and Prentice will head to Jamaica. Currently, Melissa is a student at Loyola Law School and Prentice is in medical sales for Indevus.
