NEW ORLEANS (press release) – This year’s Galatoire’s Christmas table auction raised $39,000 benefitting local organizations. A check presentation was held Friday, May 28 at the restaurant.
Each year, the Galatoire Foundation’s auctions raise funds to aid local nonprofits in achieving their goals for public good. This year’s recipients, who received 100% of the funds, are Grace at the Greenlight, Kingsley House, Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) and the Galatoire Foundation.
“Traditionally, two times a year, 162 seats get auctioned off,” said Galatoire Foundation President Melvin Rodrigue. “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we held a reduced capacity Christmas table auction and were unable to hold our Mardi Gras event. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to auction half of our tables for the Friday lunch before Christmas and were still able to raise money for these deserving charities at a time when they needed it the most. The last year has been difficult for our industry and nonprofits in our community. We hope this money comes as a welcome relief to our nonprofits to continue their mission of bettering our community as we begin to re-emerge from the pandemic.”
Since 2006, the Galatoire Foundation has raised over $2.2 million for charities in Louisiana by allowing guests to bid on tables to reserve the Friday before Christmas and Mardi Gras. Since the inception of its now-famous holiday table auctions, all proceeds collected have benefitted dozens of New Orleans-area charitable organizations, from neighborhood rebuilding projects and crime prevention to youth programs and entrepreneurship efforts.
