Retailing has taken on a life of its own for Gayle Terrell, owner of the Lazybug stores. From the greeting at the front of the store to the gift-wrapping, Terrell believes in customer service and the image that she and the store portray. “I treat customers the way they want to be treated when they walk into the store,” Terrell says.
By sticking to her philosophy, Terrell has been a successful retailer for the past 36 years. In fact, retailing energizes Terrell to be a better boss and a courteous salesperson. “I’m driven and excited by retailing. My adrenaline pumps from it,” Terrell says.
And with that enthusiasm, Terrell owns three Lazybug stores that cater to upscale contemporary women with impeccable taste and offer an array of goodies, each show-casing different items. Lazybug on Royal Street sells clothing, accessories and gifts. Lazybug in Metairie stocks up on gorgeous home accessories and gift items such as Venetian mirrors and martini glasses. Also in Metairie, Lazybug II allows customers to find casual clothing, cocktail attire and wedding outfits.
The stores’ images are also very important for Terrell. She stays one step ahead of everyone by changing the stores appearances and items as often as the seasons and festivities. “As the seasons change, the color palette does too,” Terrell exclaims.
Even though Terrell loves to work and the stores are a main focus in her life, she has turned down many offers and suggestions to expand to the Northshore and has decided to stay put in New Orleans. “I will continue to run the businesses … but I want to enjoy time with my family and grandkids.”
