NEW ORLEANS (press release) – Ten years ago, 23 girls enrolled in the first New Orleans-based Girls on the Run program. Since it was founded in 2010, Girls on the Run New Orleans has empowered and inspired more than 4,800 girls in the metropolitan area. Twenty seasons later, Girls on the Run New Orleans is thriving and celebrating its 10th anniversary. All community members, program participants, alumnae, coaches, parents, board members and supporters are invited to this virtual celebration of ten years of empowering and inspiring New Orleans girls!
Participation of the Girls on the Run Ten Year Anniversary is open to the public and all proceeds benefit Girls on the Run New Orleans programming and scholarships! To kick off the virtual celebration a virtual auction will open on Nov. 27, which includes exciting experiences and items from Ashley Longshore, The Henderson Inn (Destin, FL), Mignon Faget, The NEAT Method, Heather McMahan, The Bridal Boutique by MaeMe, Bayou Oaks at City Park, Kendra Scott, and MORE! The virtual auction will close on our Virtual Celebration Day, Dec. 12. Join in on the virtual at home celebration on Dec. 12 with dinner packages by Chef Sue Zemanick of Zasu Restaurant, tickets available for purchase now through Dec. 7. Chef Sue Zemanick is the owner/chef of Zasu located in New Orleans. Chef Sue was named Executive Chef at Gautreau’s Restaurant in 2005, which led to national success, including being named 2013 “Best Chef, South” by the James Beard Foundation and “Top Ten Best New Chef” by Food & Wine Magazine in 2008. She was also featured in many food festivals, such as the South Beach and Charleston Food and Wine Festivals, Sun Valley Vintner’s Festival, and Chef’s Club St. Regis Aspen. She has made regular television appearances, acting as a judge on Top Chef New Orleans and participating as a contestant on seasons 3 and 5 of the TV show “Top Chef Masters.”
