Give Back On GiveNOLA Day

Hosted on Tuesday, May 7th by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and Powered by Entergy, GiveNOLA Day is the community’s one-day, online giving event to inspire people to give generously to the nonprofit organizations that are making our region strong and creating a vibrant, sustainable and just region for all. For 24 hours, everyone who loves our region can support their favorite local causes by donating to one or more of 750+ participating nonprofit organizations. Last year’s event raised nearly $5.6 million from nearly 49,000 donations across the nation and around the world.  Since its inception in 2014, GiveNOLA Day has raised over $20 million collectively for our region’s nonprofits. This year, we hope to raise $6 million for the nonprofits of Southeast Louisiana.

Overall, the majority of gifts are $100 or less, which shows that everyone can be a philanthropist and that even small gifts add up to have a huge impact. GiveNOLA day donors can also schedule donations as early as May 1st on GiveNOLA.org and at our Get Down & GiveNOLA event at YLC’s Wednesday at the Square (featuring the music of Deacon John and Trumpet Mafia.)

The 750+ participating nonprofits work on a broad range of issues, including arts & culture, animals, community improvement, education, environment, health, housing, human services, public safety & crime prevention, and youth development. All of our participating nonprofits represent the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s 13-parish impact area including Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, St. James, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes. All donations made on GiveNOLA.org go directly to participating regional nonprofits. Donors can even search by Parish or organization category to give to their favorite nonprofit or discover new projects.

Our additional funds of over $375K, made possible by our generous sponsors, include The Lagniappe Fund, which funds additional dollars to all participating nonprofits on a proportional basis, as well as an additional $126K in prizes and awards that are given to the nonprofits. There are awards for most dollars raised as well as most donations. All participating nonprofit organizations that receive a donation of $10 or more on GiveNOLA Day are also entered to receive an additional prize for $1,000 from that hour. Each hour, two nonprofits will win one of two prizes, totaling $48,000 throughout the day.

At the Greater New Orleans Foundation, we look to create a resilient, sustainable, vibrant, and just region for all in which individuals and families flourish and the special character of our region is preserved, celebrated, and supported. Since our founding by forward-looking community leaders in 1983, the foundation has grown from $4 million to over $385 million in assets under management today. The foundation has played a key role in the region’s recovery, coordinating donor efforts and rallying support following the disasters that have affected our area, including Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf Coast oil spill. Today, GNOF manages more than 700 funds devoted to charitable, environmental, cultural, and economic development purposes. As one of the oldest and largest philanthropic organizations in the region, we’re proud of our investments in creating a thriving community for all. Learn more about GNOF at www.gnof.org.
