Tuesday, May 1 is an incredibly exciting day for the entire New Orleans community – it’s GiveNOLA Day! It is our day to come together and show our love for the nonprofits that do so much for all of us. The 24-hour, online giving event is hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation to inspire people to give generously. Since its inception in 2014, GiveNOLA Day has raised more than $15 million for local nonprofits, and to celebrate the 5th anniversary, the goal is to raise $5 million on May 1!
How does it work? It’s easy! Simply visit www.givenola.org on Tuesday, May 1, and give $10 or more to any (or many!) participating nonprofit(s). Each and every gift can help nonprofits win prizes, random hourly Rock Around the Clock drawings, and a portion of the Lagniappe Fund (which is distributed proportionally, meaning every gift gets a little boost). From education to animal welfare, from housing to the environment, there are nonprofits participating in GiveNOLA Day that each of us can connect to, so it’s the perfect time to support some of your old favorites, or to peruse the website and find some new nonprofits to support!
Because this is New Orleans, what would a city-wide giving day be without a party?! You’re invited to celebrate GiveNOLA Day with us at GiveNOLA Fest! The free concert will be from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Center for Philanthropy, 919 St. Charles Av. featuring Irma Thomas followed by the Soul Rebels. Thanks to Blue Oak BBQ, Company Burger, Pressed, Ralph Brennan’s Catering, and Taceaux Loceaux, you can eat and drink for a cause because they will be donating a portion of all proceeds from food and drink sales to Lagniappe Fund! New this year, you can enter a drawing to win a pair of Southwest Airlines round-trip tickets via a donation to the Lagniappe Fund, which benefits all 766 participating nonprofits.
So, mark your calendars for May 1 to make some donations to amazing nonprofits, celebrate the city’s generosity at GiveNOLA Fest, and help us reach our $5 million goal!
