On June 3rd The Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society began their kickoff to the summer social season with Juleps in June.
Honorary Chairs Tia and James Roddy hosted the gala at their Audubon Place residence. This year The Society honored authors Debra Shriver and Robert Hicks both with Southern roots and new books out about New Orleans.
Party Co-Chairs Jeanie Clinton, Michael Harold, and Quinn Peeper presented an evening that began with a Patrons Party where mint juleps (prepared the way William Faulkner liked them) and hors d’ oeuvres were served. Musician Alexandra Scott performed during the first part of the night and signed autographs at both parties. Patrons who purchased tickets enjoy a year membership to The Society and discounts on events and books throughout the upcoming year. Society Co-Founders Rosemary James, Joseph DeSalvo and W. Kenneth Holditch continued the festivities with a fuchsia and yellow-rose Garden Party and buffet dinner by Chef Glenn Vatschell’s restaurant, Palate New Orleans, that extended into the night. The Desoto Street Band, led by Robert Eustis, filled the garden space with “New Orleans’ sound with a twist” for dancing. Elizabeth Woolverton took home an original Alan Gerson portrait of William Faulkner as the winning auction item for the evening. Purchases and tickets from the fundraiser benefit The Society’s projects for at-risk teenagers, workshops and classes for developing writers, and literary education for adults.
