New Orleans Archbishop Alfred Hughes and Catholic Charities welcomed 130 guests at the early evening reception on March 5 at the Archbishop’s residence. The event
was to honor longtime volunteers for Archbishop’s Community Appeal. The fund was founded by Archbishop Philip Hannan and Dr. Ralph Dauterive 40 years ago as an effort to help the city recover from Hurricane Betsy. This year, under the leadership of Joseph Exnicios, the ACA exceeded its goal of raising $1.25 million.
Volunteers recognized at the event were: Gayle Benson (for 15 years of service), Mike Read (for 35 years of service), Bob Acomb Jr. (for 20 years of service); Leon Reymond Jr. (for 35 years of service) and Dr. Ralph Dauterive and Archbishop Hannan (for 40 years of service). Entertainment included a performance by harpist Meredith Arnold, who is a student at Loyola University, and Pigeon Catering provided a buffet.
