This month, designer Whitney Jones of Whitney J Décor opened her Gretna-based brick and mortar design studio to the public. The boutique features Jones’ finds from all over the globe and skews heavily toward natural materials and vibrant colors, patterns and textures.
The New Orleans-native — a House Beautiful magazine Next Wave 2021 designer and one of our 2017 New Orleans Homes magazine Design Masters — started her design business in 2012. Offerings at Jones’ eponymous online shop, which began as a tightly curated hub for selling pillows and home accessories, have grown over the years to include a larger, but equally as discerning selection of everything from mugs and rugs to jewelry and calligraphy brushes. The items are often highlighted on Jones’ robust and colorful Instagram feed and blog and can now be found in the Gretna shop.
In our 2017 interview with Jones, she said she drew inspiration from New Orleans’ architecture, but lamented the city’s dearth of larger design showrooms, a void she clearly aims to help begin to fill with this new venture.
