The Parkway Partners Board of Directors proudly selected Jared Zeller and Michael Karam as the 2015 recipients of the Green Spirit Award, an annual award given to an individual who exhibits tireless energy in supporting the improvement of New Orleans’ green spaces and the city’s appearance.
A Patron Party preceeded the event at the home of Cathy and Mark McRae, where Karam and Zeller received their award, designed by glass artist Eric Hess.
One hundred ninety-two guests attended the main event, chaired by Kristi Trail and husband Blake Heymann and Norma Grace with husband Bob Sternhell. Auction Chairs included Donna D’Antoni and Josie Boynton.
Margaret Orr was the emcee for the main program, recognizing the current and past recipients of the Green Spirit Award and encouraging guests to plant trees this fall.
The Messy Cookers Jazz Band greeted guests as they arrived and in the main room. Denise Gerarve led The Pussyfooters dance troupe, which enlivened the crowd to make donations towards planting trees. Actor Sean Patterson sang “It’s Not Easy Being Green.”
Eleven restaurants provided cuisine, along with a host of libations including a sparkling peach and mint vodka cocktail created by Parkway Partners staff member Susannah Burley. Food critic Tom Fitzmorris created a buzz around the food tables.
Auction highlights included Orpheus parade packages, a saltwater fishing trip, Jazz Fest tickets and a two-night stay at Windsor Court.
Proceeds from this event fund Parkway Partners’ ongoing efforts to plant trees, support community gardeners and schoolyard gardens. Feast with the Stars directly benefits tree planting programs and gardens.
