Green Schoolyards: Playground or innovative drainage technology

Sarah Olivier is the New Orleans Program Director for The Trust For Public Land.

The Trust For Public Land helps communities raise funds, do research, plan initiatives, and acquire and protect land. The organization employs cutting-edge research and innovative mapping techniques to create parks, protect open spaces, and deliver community-driven conservation plans.

The Trust’s first project in New Orleans was to create a “Green Schoolyard” at Paul Habans Charter School. This “Green Schoolyard” features innovative play equipment, including a chalkboard wall and a log jam climber. The schoolyard incorporates extensive sustainability features such as rain gardens to catch rainfall, and drainage technology that reduces the amount of rain runoff and lowers the chance of flooding. For additional information on “Green Schoolyards”, and to learn how you can volunteer or make a donation to this valuable organization, visit The Trust For Public Land website
